Artur Virgílio Alves Reis (1896–1955) was a Portuguese criminal and fraudster known for orchestrating one of the largest financial frauds in history, the 1925 Portuguese Bank Note Crisis. He deceived a British printing firm into producing legitimate banknotes for the Bank of Portugal based on forged documents, nearly collapsing the national economy. Reis was convicted in 1930 and served 15 years in prison.
