Bundibugyo virus (BDBV) is one of six known species of Orthoebolavirus that can cause Ebola virus disease (EVD) in humans. It was first identified in August 2007 during an outbreak of viral hemorrhagic fever in the Bundibugyo District of western Uganda. BDBV typically has a case fatality rate ranging from 25% to 50% and currently lacks approved vaccines or specific antiviral treatments.
