Max Cady is a fictional character and the primary antagonist of John D. MacDonald's 1957 novel, "The Executioners," also known as "Cape Fear." He is a psychopathic ex-convict driven by an obsessive desire for revenge against the lawyer, Sam Bowden, whom he blames for his imprisonment. The character has been notably portrayed by Robert Mitchum in the 1962 film adaptation, Robert De Niro in the 1991 remake, and Javier Bardem in an upcoming 2025 Apple TV series.
