Tyrannosaurus rex, often shortened to T. rex, was a large theropod dinosaur that lived in what is now western North America during the late Maastrichtian age of the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 69 to 66 million years ago. Known as an apex predator, T. rex was a bipedal carnivore characterized by its massive skull, powerful bite force, and short but strong forelimbs.
