The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an American carrier-capable supersonic, twin-engine, variable-sweep wing fighter aircraft. Developed for the United States Navy, it served as the primary maritime air superiority fighter, fleet defense interceptor, and tactical reconnaissance platform from 1974 until its retirement in 2006. The F-14 was notable for its distinctive variable-geometry wings and its ability to carry the long-range AIM-54 Phoenix missile.
