The franchise was founded in 1967 as the Dallas Chaparrals in the American Basketball Association (ABA), relocating to San Antonio in 1973 and joining the NBA in 1976. The Spurs have won five NBA championships, in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014.
