Venom is a prominent character in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, known as a sentient alien symbiote that bonds with various hosts, most notably Eddie Brock. First appearing as Spider-Man's black costume in The Amazing Spider-Man #252 (May 1984), the character fully debuted as Venom in The Amazing Spider-Man #300 (May 1988). Initially a villain, Venom has evolved into a complex anti-hero within the Marvel Universe.
